WET WEATHER TRAIL CLOSURES: During wet conditions, park trails close to equestrian and bicycle use. These temporary closures reduce erosion and protect trail surfaces from being damaged.  Trails reopen as soon as possible.   Before heading out, check the hotline.  Already at the trailhead? Look for closure signs.  Our Rangers open and close these signs to reflect the current conditions. Thank you for your cooperation.  

CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING - Coyote Creek Parkway: Currently, parts of the Coyote Creek Trail are closed due to flooding. Coyote Creek Trail from Hellyer Park to Embedded way is flooded and closed. Detour begins at Shady Oaks Park and signs are posted on site.  All low trail crossing points on the Coyote Creek Trail between Bailey Avenue and Metcalf Road are underwater due to recent rains. During rain events, there will be higher flows in Coyote Creek, causing flooding.

CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING - Parts of Hellyer County Park: Vehicle access to Velodrome, Sylvandale, or Yerba Buena group sites is closed due to flooding. The Off-Leash Dog Park can still be accessed from 985 Hellyer Ave. These areas are closed until the water recedes. During rain events, there will be higher flows in Coyote Creek, causing flooding.

Administration Office

  • The Parks Permits & Reservations Office and Call Center will be closed for staff training on April 19, 2024. Please plan ahead for any inquiries related to permits or reservations. Almaden Quicksilver County Park

  • All trails are closed to bikes and equestrians due to wet conditions.

  • Occasional and brief trail closures may be posted at trailheads for the following trails as we install irrigation mains on the downslope edge of Mine Hill Trail and perform other finishing work related to the calcine remediation project: Wood Rd Trail, Kitty Monahan Trail (formerly Yellow Kid Trail), Castillero Trail, Hidalgo Cemetery Trail, and Mine Hill Trail. Your understanding and cooperation during these intermittent closures are greatly appreciated.

Alviso Marina County Park

  • Levee closures are in effect until construction activities are completed. Closures include parts of the Alviso Slough Trail and sections of the Mallard Slough Trail at Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.  Construction is scheduled to be completed by summer 2025.   • During severe storms and high tides, the launch ramp may be closed; do not use it if it’s closed.

Anderson Lake County Park

  • Anderson Lake, Woodchoppers, and Toyon Picnic Area are closed due to dam construction until approximately 2030.

Calero County Park

  • All trails are closed to bikes and equestrians due to wet conditions.

Coyote Creek / Parkway Lakes / Ogier Ponds / Guadalupe River (South of the Reservoir)​

  • Currently, parts of the Coyote Creek Trail are closed due to flooding. All low trail crossing points on the Coyote Creek Trail between Bailey Avenue and Metcalf Road and two locations between the southern end of Hellyer Park and Embedded Way are underwater due to recent rains. Valley Water is releasing water from Anderson Reservoir, causing the flooding.
  • Fishing for the season closed on November 15, 2023—reference CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife Sportfishing Regulations​ for more information.
  • Call (408) 355-2200 before you travel to make sure your park or reservoir of choice is open

Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park

  • All trails are closed to bicyclists and equestrians due to wet conditions. 

Ed R. Levin County Park

  • The Azores Trail and the Los Coches Ridge Trail (between Junctions #53 and #68) are closed to equestrians due to wet conditions. 

  • The hang glider road (Monument Peak Road) is closed. No vehicular traffic permitted. All others should exercise extreme caution if using the road and plan alternate trail routes.

    • The 1750’, 600’ hang glider launch points are closed to vehicular traffic.

    • The 300’ hang glider launch point is open.

  • The youth campground is open.

  • A section of the Spring Valley Trail is closed indefinitely due to a slide.

  • Sandy Wool Lake will be closed to fishing for kids' special events with South Bay Fishing in the City on the following days this season: 

    • 8 am April 18 until 1 pm April 21. For more info, please call (408) 355-2240

    • Sandy Wool Lake was stocked by the Department of Fish and Wildlife on 3/29/24 with 300 lbs of trout.

Hellyer County Park

  • Parts of the Coyote Creek Trail are closed due to flooding.  Coyote Creek Trail from Hellyer Park to Embedded way is flooded and closed. Detour when approaching from the south begins at Shady Oaks Park and signs are posted on site.  During rain events, there will be higher flows in Coyote Creek, causing flooding.
  • Vehicle access to Velodrome, Sylvandale, or Yerba Buena group sites is closed due to flooding. The Off-Leash Dog Park can still be accessed from 985 Hellyer Ave. 

Los Gatos Creek County Park

  • There is a partial closure of the Los Gatos Creek Trail due to unsafe conditions. A short detour is available for the 100’ section of trail that is closed.  

Lexington Reservoir County Park

  • Effective January 2, 2024, after the New Year holiday, Lexington Reservoir will implement new operating hours. Boating will be closed on weekdays but will be accessible on weekends (Saturday - Sunday) and holiday Mondays from 8:00 am until 30 minutes before sunset.

Metcalf Motorcycle County Park 

  • All trails are closed due to wet weather and trail conditions. 

Mt. Madonna

  • All trails are currently closed to equestrian use due to current conditions; however, they are open for normal use.  
  • Blackhawk Trail between Junction 77 (Ridge Trail) and Junction 83 (Iron Springs) is closed due unsafe conditions.  
  • Loop Trail is closed between Mt. Madonna Rd and Junction 24 due to a major slide.
  • Redwood Trail is closed between Junction 69 and 70 due to a major slide.
  • The dirt section of Mt Madonna Road between Pole Line rd and Redwood Retreat is closed due to a slide. 
  • Inspiration Point Area, all trails are closed due to the Mt Madonna Fuel Reduction Project.

Penitencia Creek

  • Upper Penitencia Creek is closed year-round to fishing.
  • The trail under Highway 680 may become flooded; do not enter if flooded.

Sanborn County Park

  • State Route 9 (SR-9) Closure Information: To reach the main entrance of Sanborn County Park, use Sanborn Rd off Route 9 from San Jose. Please note that Bohlman/McGill Road DO NOT provide access to Sanborn County Park.   State Route 9 (SR-9) from Sanborn Rd. to Redwood Gulch Rd. near Saratoga is closed due the highway being blocked by debris due to an unstable hillside. Follow the orange reroute signs for proper guidance.  For more information on the Route 9 closure visit the CalTrans website or call 1-800- 427-ROAD.

  • Summit Rock is closed daily through August 30, 2024, for Peregrine Falcon nesting season.

  • Sections throughout Sanborn County Park will be closed in rotation for periods of 4 to 6 weeks through the summer of 2024 for crucial fuel reduction projects for the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Forest Health Project. Hard closures on the John Nicholas Trail (between Black Road and Lake Ranch Reservoir/junction 76) and Lake Ranch Trail down to Sanborn Road will occur in late April as weather permits for approximately 3 days. Some temporary trail closures will occur intermittently during this period, resulting in delays of 15-20 minutes. This means that the section of John Nicholas Trail from Skyline to Lake Ranch Reservoir will not be a through trail during hard closures.

  • Pile Burn Notice:  Santa Clara County Fire and County Parks will be conducting two pile burn operations at Sunnyvale Mountain and the Dyer House.  The first tentative date will be Monday April 15 and a second date, April 22 has been scheduled for back-up. There are no trail closures during pile burn operations. 

  • Restricted Parking on Black Road (Map): To improve traffic flow for area residents and visitors at Sanborn County Park, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted resolutions restricting parking on Black Road. Press Release  

Santa Teresa County Park

  • All trails are closed to bikes and equestrians due to wet conditions.
  • The restrooms and water fountain are currently out of order at the Bernal-Gulnac Joice Ranch Entrance. Portable toilets and sink are available for use. There is no potable water available.

Stevens Creek County Park

  • Between April 4 and April 19, Cayon, Cooley, Lake Shore, and Sycamore parking lots will be restriped and closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for a day per lot during this timeframe.

Uvas Canyon County Park

  • The bridge on the single-track section of the Waterfall Loop has been closed due to safety concerns. Use the adjacent fire road to bypass the bridge. Review the map for details.

  • Uvas Creek Trail is closed due to safety concerns.

  • Uvas Road, 0.5 miles South of Croy Road,  will be closed from February 12 at 6:00 a.m. to February 16 at 6:00 p.m. due to the Uvas Creek Bridge Replacement Project by Santa Clara County's Department of Roads and Airports. Access to Uvas Canyon will likely need to be made from the north (coming from Oak Glen or McKean Road) during the closure. 

  • A reservation must be made before entering Uvas Canyon. Reservations are required seven (7) days a week, including weekends and holidays, beginning Jan 1, 2021.

Confirmation of your reservation must be printed and placed on your dashboard when parked inside Uvas Canyon County Park.

Vasona Lake County Park

  • Valley Water has started filling Vasona Lake with water. Elevation will come up quickly. Please refrain from entering the lake area. Valley Water lowered the water level at Vasona Lake to complete regular maintenance on the Vasona Dam. Valley Water has biologists on-site and stated, “there are no public safety concerns. Our biologists are working during this process to make sure there are no significant issues for fish or amphibians in the lake. Birds are able to move to nearby habitats upstream and downstream of the reservoir... Thanks to everyone for their patience.”   You can share your concerns and questions with Valley Water directly by using their online portal:   https://access.valleywater.org/s/

  • April 14, 2024 (Sunday): Half-day closure to vehicle traffic (until 11am)  for "The Great Race." Expect limited public parking after the event concludes. 

  • May 18, 2024 (Saturday): Half-day closure to vehicle traffic (until 11am) for "Girls on the Run."  Expect limited public parking after the event concludes.
