Meet at the Youth Science Institute building at Vasona County Park. Access will be from the park entrance at 298 Garden Hill Drive in Los Gatos, CA 95032.

Hiking Around Cattle | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Cattle Grazing

Come hike with a Ranger and learn how Santa Clara County Parks uses cattle to fight invasive plants and reduce fuel loads. Learn how to hike around these grazing animals safely.

Meet at the Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch Entrance Parking Lot, by the covered picnic benches. Water and porta-potties will be available at the meeting area. The hike will be 4 miles with a gradual 660ft of elevation gain.

Bring: Enough water, food and proper clothing for a 4 mile hike.

Weeding Party Grant Park

Join Park staff in beautifying Joseph D Grant County Park! Activities can include picking up litter and removing leaf litter from picnic areas, habitat restoration, painting, and weeding.

Appropriate attire includes gloves, close-toed shoes, and clothes that can get a little dirty. Dress in layers and bring a refillable water container.

 Stevens Creek County Park turned 100 this year and we want you to celebrate with us. 

The Stevens Creek Visitor Center will be open to explore alongside Park Interpreters from 9:30am - 1pm.  You'll also be able to participate in a craft activity, great for all ages.  

At noon, join Outdoor Recreation staff on a nature walk to kick off our new "Hike the Hundred" challenge. After departing from the Visitor Center, park staff will guide participants along one of the thirteen curated scavenger hunt trails that are a part of this new challenge. 

The details of all thirteen hikes will launch on April 20, but by joining this hike, you can check one off the list before exploring the rest on your own.  No registration required. $6 parking fee.

  • Visitor Center Pop-up - 9:30am-1pm
  • Guided Hike the Hundred Walk - 12pm

What's in a Ranger Truck? | 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Get a firsthand look at what's inside a park ranger's patrol truck!

Interact with the equipment and tools used and learn about emergency operations, firefighting and the daily patrol duties of a ranger. Meet at the Hellyer Visitor Center.  

Appropriate for children accompanied by an adult, $6 vehicle entrance fee

Working with Park Ranger staff, volunteers will use a variety of hand tools to resurface and retread some of the trails at Metcalf Motorcycle Park. Volunteers should bring and wear protective attire including boots or rugged shoes, a hat, and gloves. Pants are recommended to better protect the legs. Volunteers can bring their own hand tools, but some will be provided if needed. Volunteers may not bring power tools. Bring water and snacks.

For April 21st: There might be muddy conditions so please wear boots and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Please bring your bikes to ride to the work area and to ride after the work (weather permitting).

Minimum age: 14
