Hellyer Weeding Parties! | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

 If you are looking to get outside and connect with new people right in your backyard, this is the opportunity for you! California native plants play an important role in the health of our parks. To help them thrive, we have to work together to remove non-native and invasive plants.

This event is in partnership with Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful.

Vaccination verification will not be required for volunteer events that are outside and one-time or short-term in nature. If you wish to apply as a Long Term volunteer (18 and older), or volunteer working indoors, you will be required to show proof of vaccination and all boosters for which you are eligible. Regardless of your vaccination status, do not attend a volunteer event if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to COVID-19. Click here for Santa Clara County's COVID-19 Guidelines. Quicksilver History Hike | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join a Park Interpreter to explore what remains of the once-bustling mining operations in the hills above New Almaden. This moderate, 3-4 mile hike in Almaden Quicksilver County Park leaves from the Wood Road parking lot off Hicks Road in San Jose. Dress in layers with sturdy shoes, sun protection, and bring plenty of drinking water. There are no bathrooms nor drinking fountains along the hike.

Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. This hike is offered once a month. Registration for the hike opens on the 1st of the month that the hike is offered.  Reserve here: https://forms.gle/sv8z52i6tRLbEVgn9.

About the Summer 2022 Jr. Ranger Program:

Youth ages 9-11 are invited to join park staff as we explore, learn about, and respect nature at selected parks from June-August. Participants who attend 3 or more activities and complete a Junior Ranger logbook will earn the Junior Ranger badge and certificate. At least one of the 3 Junior Ranger activities must be a Junior Ranger program offered in June - August 2022 but other programs including staff-led campfire talks, guided walks, park events, and self-guided hikes can count toward the badge. All Junior Ranger activities are free, but parking fees may apply.

Native Plant and Pollinator Day | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Celebrate National Pollinator Week by joining us at Martial Cottle Park for a Native Plant and Pollinator Guided Walk. Learn about the importance of pollinators and how native plants help them.    

The 45-minute guided walk will be about 1.5 miles round trip on paved paths. Families are encouraged to attend.  

Meet at the Martial Cottle Park Visitor Center at 10:00 AM to join the guided walk.

Additional pollinator activities will take place from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM throughout the park.

Admission is free. $6 parking fee

bike racers at hellyer velodrome

The track bike racing season has begun at Hellyer County Park Velodrome. Races are held every Wednesday night through Sept 21. Come out and watch up to two hours of non-stop racing action under the lights!

The track opens around 6pm and racing starts promptly at 6:45pm. The racers consist of various groups: women and men, beginners through experts. Bernal Ranch is a historic site located in Santa Clara County Parks. The Muwekma Ohlone were the first inhabitants of the land and recognized the value of the natural fresh water spring of Santa Teresa Spring. The spring was also used during the Juan Bautista De Anza expedition in 1776. Jose Joaquin Bernal was thirteen years old when he first visited Santa Teresa Spring during the expedition. He eventually settled at Santa Teresa and 120 of his descendants lived on the same ranch land. Currently, the Santa Teresa community is home to a diverse population of families each with a unique history to the land.

Join us to volunteer and be part of the Santa Teresa community. Volunteer opportunities available include gardening, barn maintenance, and historical house upkeep. Hope to see you at the community volunteer days!

For families with children under 14, please be prepared to sign a release form for your child on the day of the event.

We’ll explore the agricultural history of the Cottle/Lester ranch and learn about the park’s current farming practices, partners and sustainable features. The program lasts about an hour and includes a short mile walk on flat terrain.
