Virl O Norton Trail Extension

New Bay Area Ridge Trail Dedicated Through Gap Closure Project at Almaden Quicksilver County Park

December 2022 - County Parks recently completed construction of a new 1,150-foot extension of the Virl O Norton Trail in Almaden Quicksilver County Park. The new trail provides an off-street path for visitors to enter and exit the park at the Mockingbird Hill entrance and bridges a long-existing gap in the Bay Area Ridge Trail, connecting over 35 miles of existing trails in the countywide trails network.

The new connection is part of a collaborative effort between County Parks, the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, and the City of San Jose. In coordination with the new trail, Bay Area Ridge Trail volunteers installed new Bay Area Ridge Trail signs along the route between Almaden Quicksilver County Park and the Los Alamitos Creek Trail.

Whether you have yet to explore the Bay Area Ridge Trail at Almaden Quicksilver County Park, or you are a park regular, be sure to Plan Your Visit to see the new trail and medallions and to hike the connected trail network.
