Background
The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of preparing a Site Plan for the recently acquired Fortini Property (on July 6, 2022), which connects Calero and Santa Teresa County Parks. The Fortini Property is located parallel to Fortini Road in San Jose between McKean and San Vicente Roads, and is an extension of the Calero County Park.
Fortini Property Site Plan Project
A Site Plan is the one of the major steps in the County Parks Department’s process for developing and implementing plans focused on specific sites within County Parks. The Fortini Property Site Plan will consist of a document and conceptual diagrams of the respective locations within the vicinity of the 47-acre site, showing the potential future multi-use trail connection between Santa Teresa’s Stile Ranch Trailhead and Calero’s Rancho San Vicente Parking Lot, and park uses in the Fortini Property.
The Site Plan will consider the long-term feasibility of the proposed uses, the focus of constructing new Countywide Trails to connect existing regional, sub-regional, and connector trails, the physical barrier of the trail connection crossing McKean and San Vicente Roads, enhancement of education and interpretive visitor signage, and future partnership opportunities.
It is our intent to accommodate and appropriately address the diverse recreational needs of the community of Santa Clara County, while simultaneously protecting and preserving our natural and cultural resources.
As part of the Site Plan process, the County Parks Department will:
- Conduct a preliminary scan of biological and cultural resources that might be present in the park;
- Analyze the existing utility infrastructure (water, wastewater, electricity) relative to potential park improvements;
- Meet with various stakeholders, agency staff, and the County Parks and Recreation Commission; and
- Conduct a public meeting
Compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
In addition to the Site Plan, the County Parks Department will be reviewing the project for compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). It is anticipated that a Mitigated Negative Declaration will be prepared. The draft Mitigated Negative Declaration, will be made available to the public for review.
Public Meetings
As part of the Site Plan process, the County Parks Department will hold a future public meeting to gather input on the preliminary design alternatives for the Site Plan.
- Public Workshop Meeting: Date, time and location to be determined and will be posted when confirmed.
